6 Tips to Improve Your Sales Performance

You may think that you are not much of a salesperson but if you believe you are a good person, you can become a great person and a great person can become a great salesperson. Here are 6 tips to help you improve your sales performance:

  1. Harness the power of positive. Our thoughts can bring certain outcomes in our lives. The best salespersons possess a positive attitude so be careful not to be distracted by negative thoughts. The best way to combat negative thoughts is to replace them with positive ones. When you feel the tinge of “what ifs” concentrate on your facts, not your fear of “what ifs”.  “An attitude of positive expectation is the mark of the superior personality.”  – Brian Tracy

 

  1. Make a plan and set smart goals. If your primary goal is to buy a car, you are going to do what is to be done to get it.  As a car salesperson, if that is to sell 5 cars per month, then that is your secondary goal. Plan your sales strategies and objectives with that goal of a car in sight.  Set a target date, breaking it down into daily or weekly achievable goals.

 

  1. Improve your knowledge on buyers and sellers behaviour. The way your clients feels affects the way they will buy.  People buy out of fear, loss, greed, to feel important, etc. See my blog - Why Do People Buy Things? Learn everything you can about how our emotions and attitudes can influence our purchasing power.  

 

  1. Listen actively to your customer. Most times I have a ton of questions about something I really want to buy, don’t you?  People want answers and if you listen to your prospects and ask pertinent questions, you will find out what they really want. That’s where you come in with answers that can lead to you fulfilling their needs. If you can find good reasons why you need a product you will want to buy it, correct?  Help your prospect figure out their whys and you can close a sale.

 

  1. Ask questions. People like to talk about themselves. Ask questions to better acquaint yourself with your customer and what your customer is searching for. If you would like to gain more information, ask when is a good time to connect with you? What impresses you most about this product? What changes would you like to see? What does this purchase mean to you? If they have had bad service in the past, ask what happened? Asking questions can help you to identify their needs and customize to their circumstances.

 

  1. Put yourself in the customer’s shoes. Look at it from your prospective customer’s point of view. Be honest and helpful. Help them realise that you want what is best for them. If they request more information about your product or service, be happy to oblige.  I would want the assurance that you are doing everything you can to deliver exactly what I want, wouldn’t you?
